Professional Biography

I have been teaching for fourteen years with the last ten years being in New Haven Community Schools. I have taught Kindergarten for six years and love teaching this age. It is great to watch the kids grow socially and academically. There is nothing more exciting and rewarding than to help a child learn how to read! I have a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education with a social studies major and a science minor. I also received a Master's of Arts in Teaching Reading and Language Arts with a minor in Early Childhood Education. Both degrees were earned at Oakland University. Part of my student teaching was in New Zealand where I worked with 1st grade students from thirteen different countries! I use many of the teaching strategies I learned while overseas. I have been married for 9 years to my husband, Tom who is also a teacher. We have a little girl, named Anya, who is two years old. She brings so much joy to our lives! I also have two black Labrador Retrievers, named Maya and Bailey, and two turtles, named Cobb and Rocky, that I rescued while working at a nature center during my college years.
